I recently wrote a post about the unique agony of sinus headache, and discussed some of the best commonsense home remedies available. One detail which escaped the piece, and which has increasingly come to be accepted in the ENT community, is the practice of varying temperatures.

As this article describes, one of the most effective tactics you can try against sinus pressure and headache is switching your compresses between hot and cold:

Alternating hot and cold compresses applied alternatively can also help to reduce congestion (e.g. 3 minutes hot compress followed by 30 seconds cold compress, repeated several times a day).

Most people go straight for the warmth, but there is some value in reducing inflammation and swelling in between. Sounds counterintuitive, perhaps, but we have good reason to believe this technique may work better than warm or cold washcloths alone.

And if nothing else works, it is time to visit an LA sinus expert. Contact me here to set up your own appointment today.
