Recently, I was invited to the ABC7 newsroom to talk about some of the most common symptoms, presentations, and treatments for sinus pressure. Check out the full video below:
The digest version for those of you who can’t sit through the video is fairly basic. When you experience sinus pain or pressure, it could be caused any of three things: a cold, allergies, or a sinus infection.
For colds, the advice is to wait and see for about 7-10 days. If the symptoms persist or worsen in that time, then it’s time to see a doctor. For allergies, you can simply take allergy medications and avoid common triggers until the sinuses clear. And for sinus infections, your sinus doctor can usually relieve the congestion through a combination of irrigation and antibiotics if necessary.
The key is making sure that you’re using the right treatment for the right medical condition. Antibiotics are useless against a cold or allergies, for instance, while allergy medication won’t help an infection. That’s why the diagnosis is all-important.
At the Los Angeles Sinus Center, we offer multiple technologies in-house to give you the absolute best diagnosis, including a fast CT scan, full allergy panels, and extensive digital imaging tools.
